Project Information

March 2013

Works to remove the temporary bridges over the culvert were carried out successfully and we wish to thank the residents of Bray for their co operation and understanding during the works. Works to complete the final surfacing will take place in the coming weeks. Please check the website regularly for updates

The works extend from the Bray DART bridge, upstream to the fassaroe junction with the N11.

Overview

Major structural works include widening the channel downstream of Bray Bridge along the golf course just before the DART  bridge, installation of a culvert on the north side of Bray Bridge creating, in effect, an “extra arch” in the bridge to allow for a greater volume of water.River Bank stabilisation works in areas from Bray Bridge upstream past the peoples park and  bed widening and adaptation works in the Slang area.

All of the way through the works the river bed will be treated sensitively and we will be working with the Fisheries Board to minimise impacts on aquatic life.  Where river bed re profiling is to take place the existing river bed material will be removed and stored while the works take place, then reinstated once the works are complete.

Impacts

While every reasonable effort will be made to minimise impacts to the stakeholders (residents, businesses commuters and people us use the river and its surrounding areas) there will be some neccessary disruption, in the form of extra construction traffic and noise in the area, traffic diversions and closures.  We ask that you work with us on the successful delivery of the works and to keep abreast of the project using this website, and various contact points as described on our news and contacts pages

Ongoing and completed Works

Works are now ongoing on 3 fronts:

Area 4 - Raising of flood defence level and riverbank protection at the slang, some of which has already been completed.  Flood defence works continue to the rear of coburg. The in-river works will be resuming from the start of May. These works will commence at the slang and progress to Peoples Park.

Area 2a - Concrete works in the culvert area complete. The removal of sheet piles is currently taking place. Stone cladding will begin shortly.

Area 1 - The flood defence wall is progressing well. Piling rigs will be arriving on site in the coming weeks and will start work in the vicinity of the railway bridge.
